Engineering in the streets

On Sunday 10 June we enjoyed the event "Engineering on the streets" in the City Hall Square right at the heart of Valencia city centre. This is one among many activities of the  50th anniversary of our School designed to raise awareness and to increase visibility of the profession of civil engineering in society. One of the goals of this event was to transform a Valencia landmark, the City Hall Square, into a space for fun in which it would be possible to play engineers for a day and to allow visitors to touch things, to experiment with materials, structures, tools  and construction equipment which are part of our daily work as civil engineers.

Over 5000 children and young people joined in during the 5-hour event. They learned how the most relevant pieces of work of civil engineering work and how they are useful to society. This was possible through large-scale models, radio-controlled machines and construction workshops with spaghetti, among other things.

The event was a total success and it was widely covered by the media. We are very proud of the coverage and impact on social media and national television, and we are grateful for the amazing job and engagement of students, teaching staff and support staff that have made this event possible.
